In Harrisburg I pledge to
- Fight to protect access to PACE for all seniors. Our seniors deserve our respect and thanks for all they have done for each one of us. Government can and should be a watchdog to make sure that our seniors are cared for and given the dignity they deserve. We need greater accountability and oversight on assisted living facilities – quality and safety standards vary greatly based on the ability of people to pay. This is not right. All of our seniors should be cared for in the best manner possible.
- Choice: I am a firm believer in a woman's right to choose. I have long agreed with the sentiments of President Clinton: abortion should be safe, legal and rare. The government cannot take away the right of a woman to control her body.
- Stem Cell Research: I will work to see that Pennsylvania takes a lead role and applaud the Governor’s Jonas Salk Legacy Fund. Government needs to support science and the ability to make real that which a few years ago was unimaginable. The use of stem cells can lead to cures we cannot comprehend today. Science should not be held back by politics.
- Work to pass sensible gun laws. I will be a cosponsor of the "One Gun a Month" legislation. This sensible reform will address the epidemic of gun violence in our culture. We cannot allow guns to be so easily available to criminals.
- Propose legislation to allow family leave to be partially paid. We need to do more than simply say we value families. Parents should be encouraged and supported in making the choice to be home with their children in the first few months of life.
